"Since early, I was exposed to everything as all my films had their own set of problems. Right from Khosla Ka Ghosla, that took two years to release to Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye, which hit screens during the 26/11 terror attacks, to Love Sex Aur Dhoka, when there was problem with the Censor Board. I am used to it," Banerjee told PTI.
"I pay the price for doing things that I want to do and sometimes if there is no trouble...I get worried. If things go well, I get unsettled as I am used to trouble. So it is okay for me," he said.
After the super success of Love, Sex Aur Dhoka, the acclaimed filmmaker is ready to make a political thriller called Shanghai. The film is jointly being produced by PVR Pictures and Dibakar Banerjee Productions (DBP).
"I am co-producing the film with PVR. It is a thriller that has politics as its main element. It is adapted from a Greek novel written by Vassilis Vassilikos. The novel, 'Z' is based on real life assassination of a dynamic politician that happened in Greece in early 60s," the national award winning filmmaker said.
About the film, Banerjee said, "This is not political saga where there is revenge. The proper politics is how decisions taken by politicians affect the lives of common man."
"Usually one thinks politics is about those people who are clad in white clothes and stay in white painted houses.. family sagas, revenge, murder and all that. In this film we are showing how politics affects a common man," he said.
Apparently, the film has nothing to do with its title Shanghai, it will neither be shot in Shanghai nor it has to do anything with the politics of the city.
"It is because of the dreams in our hearts and minds about where we want to be. I would like to call it Shanghai. The film is shot in a nameless city in a nameless state," Banerjee said.
Interestingly, for the first time two drastically different actors Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi will be sharing screen space in this film.
"We have not finalised the female lead for the film. There will be one heroine. The film will go on floors in April-May and would release by the end of the year.
But we haven't decided the exact date of the release," he said.
