It must be the one of most triumphant homecomings ever witnessed by a son of Assam.

When Zee TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa winner Debojit Saha returned to his home on Sunday, little did he know what was in store.

Meet Sa Re Ga Ma's Debojit

"I have never seen anything like this," Debojit says about his homecoming in Silchar.

"I haven't slept for three days. This is happening because of my guru Ismail Durbarji. He has never seen anything like this either. In Kolkata itself, there was a huge crowd waiting for me. In Silchar, there were about 10 to 15 lakh people waiting since morning from the airport to my home 25 km away. The flight landed late but they waited, hungry and anxious. I have never dreamt of seeing so many people waiting to see me! My town has a population of about 10,00,000. But people from other areas like Tripura, Megalaya and Manipur had converged at the airport. They walked and followed my car all the way. It took me more than seven hours to reach home.I could see people cheering everywhere. I got scared actually. Anything could have happened," he adds.

Debojit is in a trance. "Am I a star? I don't know. Lekin pyar bahut milta hai (I'm receiving a lot of love). I'm told such a thing has never happened in India before."

"When I said I could not go to some of the nearby towns, people came to my home in Silchar and threatened to immolate themselves. I chose not to sleep in the night to visit them. I visited three towns, spent half an hour singing and talking. People smothered me in their love. I can't tell you how how ecstatic I feel. Ismailji says this is simply madness. Pyar mein pagal hone wali baat hai (It's like being madly in love). Never in my wildest dreams had I imagined such adulation," he says.

Now, back in Mumbai, Debojit's next performance will be at the Zee Cine awards in Mauritius.
