Vijay's Kanteerava had been slated for a simultaneous release but it has now been postponed.
Boss will be this year's first major release. Last year too, Darshan's Porki was among the first films to be released.
Boss will see Darshan in a double role. The actor had played a double role in Indra too. But unlike that film, here Darshan's dual characters will come face to face on several occasions.
"The differences in the two characters have been shown through Darshan's expressions, rather than his looks," says producer Ramesh Yadav.
But he is tight-lipped about the story. "Through this film, Darshan will make a place for himself just not among the mass audience but also the class. He will be the 'boss' of both the class and mass," is all he says.
Photo journalist-turned-director R Raghuraj will wield the microphone. "Formula film with a difference," is how he labels Boss. Action and songs are the highlight. Johny, Prabhu Deva's assistant, has choreographed a tapangochi number.
Is there an item song, like in most Darshan-starrers? "I didn't feel the need for it as I have complete faith in my story," says the director.
Navya Nair, who was paired opposite Darshan in his superhit film Gaja, and Rekha are the heroines. Veteran Tamil actor Prabhu has also acted in the film. It may be recalled that his father and actor Sivaji Ganesan had also acted in a Kannada film. Actress Sudharani's brother Murali has dubbed for Prabhu. "We needed someone from another state to play this role and since Prabhu is one actor who is liked by all we decided to cast him," says Yadav.
Songs by Harikrishna are among the highlights of the film. In fact, a song has been shot in the world's largest Swarovski crystal showroom. "We shot in the underground showroom and I guess ours is the first South Indian film to have been shot there," claims the director.
There are plans of remaking the film in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi.Top Kannada directors of 2010
