Basu had started his career with television, directing several episodes of Tara in 1993. He has also directed quite a few episodes of Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Tthi before branching out into filmmaking.
Now, he returns to TV with a brand new adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s Chokher Bali.
Designed for television, the film has turned out so well that it is now being considered for the big screen.
"It’s been made for the Epic channel," says the film's lead actress Radhika Apte. "When Anurag Basu offered me the role, I wanted to do it. I didn’t care which medium it was for. I have done two shots in a short film with Anurag. And what a mindblowing script! Now that the film is complete, we feel it should shown in movie theatres."
Chokher Bali may well be Anurag asu’s next theatrical release ahead of the long-delayed Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina Kaif starrer Jagga Jasoos.
There have been several interpretations of Chokher Bali on screen, the last being the late Rituparno Ghosh’s film featuring Aishwarya Rai.
