According to Contactmusic.com, the actress will portray the singing and dancing diva Roxie Hart -- played by Renee Zellweger in the movie -- for nine weeks, beginning with her first performance on April 26.
Shields' previous stage works include the New York productions of Cabaret, Exonerated and Grease. The actress also starred in the Broadway musical Wonderful Town last year.
Chicago, the film, also stars Richard Gere and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
