Box Office: Bhansali loses to SRK, yet again

December 21, 2015

A look at the week's hits and misses.

Two big releases this week and both didn't tempt the box office.

Dilwale suffered due to demonstrations and the cancellation of shows at some centres in the aftermath of the comment on 'intolerance' made by Shah Rukh Khan, which he later clarified. The film, helmed by Rohit Shetty, ended with a less-than-expected weekend figure and showed a noticeable drop on Monday, December 21.

Local distributors from territories like Delhi-Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and the Central Province stand to lose their money.

Bajirao Mastani, the other big release of the week, had a weak opening and was hampered by controversies about the story's plot; it showed some improvement over the weekend but dropped on Monday.

Trade analyst Vinod Mirani gives us the latest box office verdict.
