The year has produced a mixed bag of movies so far. Some have fared well at the box office, while others have not. And there have been some really interesting movies as well.
So how have the actors fared?
Here's a look at actors, who have raked in the most money at the box office in India this year.
*Indicates a film is still running in theatres and these are expected lifetime collections.
Akshay Kumar
Akshay Kumar has had a good year with his action movies, Baby and Gabbar Is Back.
Both have come close to the Rs 100 crore mark.
Akshay’s next film, Brothers, is expected to top that total by a good margin when it releases in August.
Box office collection: Rs 182 crore (Baby: Rs 95 crore, Gabbar Is Back: Rs 87 crore)
Varun Dhawan
Varun Dhawan has enjoyed a very successful year so far with two very different movies -- Badlapur and ABCD 2 -- finding their target audience.
While Badlapur was a revenge action drama, ABCD 2 was a dance film, with the youth rooting for it. And Varun has shown a fine range.
He is the second most successful actor this year.
Box office collection: 150 crore* (ABCD 2: Rs 100 crore*, Badlapur: Rs 51 crore)
R Madhavan
Madhavan has made a worthy comeback to the big screen with Tanu Weds Manu Returns.
Even though Kangana Ranaut has a double role in the Aanand L Rai film, Madhavan’s presence is integral to the narrative.
Box office collection: 150 crore* (Tanu Weds Manu Returns)
Amitabh Bachchan
Piku is Amitabh Bachchan’s highest grossing film in recent times.
Bachchan lent this Shoojit Sircar directed film the kind of credibility that turned an offbeat drama into a star-studded fare.
His next film, Wazir, has an ensemble cast and one looks forward to more of the Bachchan magic.
Box office collection: Rs 80 crore
Irrfan Khan
In a film that revolved around just three characters, Irrfan Khan made sure that his presence was felt from beginning to end.
Though he is beyond the number game thanks to his blockbuster Hollywood film Jurassic World, Irrfan has found a steady audience in India.
Rest assured, many more will follow for the man who has finally got his due.
Box office collection: Rs 80 crore
Ranveer Singh
Dil Dhadakne Do did not make the Rs 100 crore mark, but Ranveer Singh won't mind that. The film made what another of his hit films, Gunday, did.
Besides, Ranveer won the appreciation of critics and the audience for his performance.
Box office collection: Rs 78 crore* (Dil Dhadakne Do)
Anil Kapoor
This is what talent is all about! Besides Amitabh Bachchan, the only veteran actor who is still relevant is Anil Kapoor.
He is choosy when it comes to selecting a film, but when he steps in, he makes it his own.
This was demonstrated again in Dil Dhadakne Do where he aced his act.
Box office collection: Rs 78 crore*
Ayushmann Khurranna
Ayushmann seemed to be down and out when Hawaizaada turned out to be a disaster. But Dum Laga Ke Haisha was a hit for the actor.
In the list of heroes who have delivered this year, Ayushmann is an unusual presence. He now needs to pick his next film carefully.
Box office collection: Rs 30 crore
