Housing dinosaurs & aliens

Look closely at the picture.

Yes, this is Danny DeVito's Penguin from the 1992 film, Batman Returns. But then again, it's not really him.

Confused? Don't be.

The picture is in fact a 66 inches tall life cast of the actor!

This mould of The Hero Penguin Henchman is one of the many artworks -- including those from Jurassic Park and Aliens -- that has been purchased by India's pioneering Archive and Auction House, Osian.

These artworks, which include some of the most iconic characters ever created for film, including the T-Rex, Pteranodon and Dilophosaurus from the Jurassic Park series, the Alien Queen maquette from Aliens ad Danny DeVito's Penguin display study from Batman Returns, were purchased from the Profile in History LA Auction, a unique collection of original screen-used visual effect creatures, models and puppets for approximately Rs 1.15 crores.

The new artworks are the latest to join the growing Sci-Fi and Horror Collection of Hollywood Memorabilia collected for The Osianama, India's first integrated arts and film museum-archive-entertainment centre in Mumbai.

The collection already has artworks from films like Planet Of The Apes, Star Wars, Hell Raiser, Scream, Spider-Man and The Terminator.

And soon, these will be exhibited for the public.

"To see the smile on the faces of our children when they see these artworks in The Osianama will be wonderful," says founder chairman Nevilli Tuli. "The younger minds have a fascination for sci-fi and horror film creatures which show magnificent imagination and represent some of the most unique creations of Hollywood. We have our own exciting myths and fables but so far we have not been able to create living forms of characters such as these in our films. It is something to respect, learn from and then create anew from our roots and sensibilities but with the best use of technologies and craftsmanship."
