Meryl Streep's daughter, in her footsteps
June 26, 2007 16:08 IST

Thirty years after her mother -- the gorgeous Meryl Streep -- first hit the big screen with two tiny scenes in the film Julia, starring Vanessa Redgrave and Jane Fonda, her oldest daughter Mamie Gummer is to have her first role in -- surprise, surprise -- a film called Evening, starring Vanessa Redgrave!

Based on the novel by Susan Minot and adapted by Michael Cunningham (who wrote The Hours and helped with its screenplay), Evening is about a dying woman (Redgrave), attended to by her two daughters, and reflecting back on a tumultuous weekend 50 years in the past, and events that change her life.

Meryl Streep -- nominated for an Oscar a staggering 14 times -- comes in too, for a cameo in the final moments.

Her daughter plays a small but pivotal role, and has already garnered great notices by heavyweights like Vanity Fair and The New York Times. Apparently, when director Lajos Koltai cast her, he had no idea who her mother was. All he told the producer was that Gummer was beautiful. And, that she looked very much like Meryl Streep!

Her looks aside, we hope this talented young star goes on to have as fantastic a career as her mom has had.
