February 01, 2006 17:54 IST
More reader responses to Aamir's latest, Rang de Basanti. Most appear to have loved the film, with a few comments on what could have been better. Again, a spoiler alert: Don't scroll down if you haven't seen the film yet.

Deepak Singh: "Mind Blowing" is the only word that comes into my mind. Absolutely Mind Blowing. The movie sets you on a thinking path where you suddenly realize that somewhere we are losing what our fore-fathers stood for! Are we only trying to just live our lives which even an insects does or are we going to go something with our lives to make our country a better place?

Rang De is flawless!

: This movie is for the whole youth gang of INDIA.....Guys n Gals, wake up to the harsh reality & believe me this harsh reality is not the same we have been talking about the nation all this while long. This reality is about us. Rather than cripping and complaining about all we are forced to face in this country, have we ever thought as to what r we doing to improve it?

Stop thinking that India is beyond repair. Watch this Awesome,Thought provoking Movie and i am sure you find a small reason to believe in what i am saying. You all will surely find out that how a small contribution from your side can perhaps make a big difference to this nation of ours. This movie will aggreviate that hatred for the current system in India and make you believe that we all can (if we want to...) make a difference.

As for the movie on screen, it rocks. And believe me not only Aamir Khan but everyone in this movie has simply delivered an amazing performance. In other Words....My Best Cinematic Experience till date

Songs go extremely well with the movie....and what songs, each one a masterpiece. Excellently made.....Hats off to Rakesyh Mehra. Just go n watch this movie n you may as well find that much needed direction in your life.

Tell us what you think of Rang De!

Nilesh Mongal: Rang De Basanti" is one of the fantastic movies i have ever seen. Hats Off to Rakesh Mehra, What a script he has written. RDB is a youthful and Inspiring movie. Its a excellent movie with brilliant direction by Mr.Mehra. Performance wise Aamir is excellent and mind blowing. He is just amazing. Though he looks a bit old for his character, he lives it. His comic sense, Punjabi dialect, dialogue delivery, emotions, carefree attitude, mischief... everything is just fantastic. Only Aamir could do this. His most fantastic scene is the one in which he breaks down in front of Sue (Alice Pattern). Aamir lives the role of DJ and Azad evenly. The Aamir in Dj and in  Azad are both different. Aamir dissolves in both characters perfectly. Though all the characters share near about equal screen space but it is an Aamir Khan film.

Soha Ali Khan has given a good performance. She is very confident and seems that she had done her homework very well. But she needs to work on her looks. Madhavan in his small role is good. Kunal Kapoor and Sharman Joshi are superb and suit perfectly to their characters. Siddharth is a surprise. He has done a outstanding job. Atul Kulkarni has given a powerful performance as he does always. His expressions  are superb. Kiron Kher, Waheeda Rehman, Om puri leave their mark even in small roles. Especially Kiron Kher, she performs the punjabi mom very well and adds to the fun.

Alice Pattern needs to be mentioned specially. Indeed she has given a good performance but what more impressing about this actress is her Hindi. She portrays her character very well. Music is also outstanding. Especially Pathshala and Title Track are appealing and fantastic. The song don't interrupt the story but instead they lift it. A R Rahman has once again proved his excellence. Visually also RDB is first rate. Cinematography by Binod Pradhan is excellent. Technically RDB is flawless. Dialogues by prasoon joshi are good and youthful. Even his lyrics are fantastic especially for Title track "...nasle rang de, fasale rang de...".

Special: All about Rang De Basanti

Its a movie with some message for all the people and not only youth. The first half is excellent and fun filled. The interesting thing is the blend of past and the present is shown in a fantastic way, one cannot make out the difference. All the actors
fit in the historical roles very well. The climax is somewhat unconventional. But it is not necessary that you all have a climax with everything good with a happy ending. Some people may not like the climax part but this part of the movies which has some message for the viewers. What is surprising is that Siddharth and not Aamir plays the central role in the climax.

Awesome movie. What a excellent start for the year 2006.

Praveen Kumar: I liked 'Rang de Basanti' a lot.It has been long time since we have seen anything like this from bollywood.Swades was a good attempt but fell short. This movie has blended in well the comedy and the preaching without getting the audience bored. The way the episodes from the history were shot was excellent and they way director moved from past to present and back was very smooth.

The casting was perfect.Director got best performances out of everyone.Sharman joshi,Siddarth,Soha,Kunal were all a revealation.Aamir lived upto his reputation and gave a feel of his Rangeela and Sarfarosh days. The photography was very good though i thought that the shaking of the camera effect was overdone. The shot where aamir jumps into the pond and the shot where the guys jump when the jet flies were visually the most appealing.

I liked the scene where Aamir and Siddarth are found smiling by the commandoes just before they are shot.Bringing their end with a smile on their face and withput showing the real death was greatly done. Glimpse of golden temple was very good and we missed the horse riding scene of Aamir. Over all a very satisying movie.Havent enjoyed a movie so much after Dil chahta Hai though they are completely in different genre. Definitely a land mark movie in terms of making in Bollywood.

Bhavana Savarkar: The first half of RDB is full of life, colourful and funny. The second half is alive, hued with fight for truth. All the characters are well-etched. Right from the character Sue, to the character of Pandey. The fact that there can be unity in diversity was very well shown. The patriotism of the historical characters was interwoven at regular intervals. Madhavan in a short and sweet role. Kunal Kapoor, Om Puri, Anupam Kher, Mohan Aghase, Kiron Kher fitted just right. Soha Ali Khan was sweet and restrained. Sue was emotive (thank goodness!)  Aamir Khan and Siddharth just about perfect. In short perfection that has been Aamir Khan's virtue for long didn't spare the rest of the crew too.

For me, watching the spirit of Punjab come alive was just marvelous. The colours, music and food of Punjab were appetizing enough for any movie-goer. The climax seemed a little bit shocking. Maybe, most of us didn't expect 'the end'. However, interweaving the history with current scenario of IAF pilots is commendable. The upshot of RDB is watch the movie, laugh, cry, sing, dance and come back thinking.

Something that Sue feels seeing DJ sleeping: "DJ and the others were not sleeping, they were waking up"

Rajesh R Nair: cant find any word in the dictionary to describe this film. its one of the best films ever made in our entire film history. its just out of the world. it has all the expressions required for a commercial bollywood masala yet it
has the ability to creat a different place for itself. the film not only knocks on the doors of your conciense but also urges you
to think about your existance in this materialistic world. as amir rightly says that we thing of the past and worry about our future and spoil our present.

its high time our film makers wake up and have the courage  to make the kind of cinema that UTV and Rakeysh Mehra have made. A R Rehman, binod pradhan are outstanding. all the actors have done justice to their roles including soha ali khan. but the surprise package was sharman. he has all the qualities for  a star in the making.

on the whole Rang De Rocks. its high time we youth wake up and take charge. Amir you are too good, great work UTV, you have arrived Rakeysh.

Vijay Kumar: if anyone of you were planning to go to Rang De Basanti....better think again... the movie is watchable in the 1st half & the 2nd half....well...less said the better....HORRIBLE ..yes.....ridiculous...if the movie was being marketed as a movie for the youth of today...they were right....?!! the movie has the heroes !!! doing exactly what the youth should not even think of doing.... can't help it .....but i've to say that the movie maker/ writer (whoever) must be an insane/sick guy/(s)

One thing that has to be appreciated is the performance of all the actors in the movie. There are quite a few scenes which almost bring tears to your eyes. The music is really good, songs are fantastic. But again, not a single song is complete without a scene from the past (if you've seen the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about).

All in all a brilliantly done movie, with good music, fantastic performance by the actors involved. Some breathtaking photography. But all this is wasted by a very week storyline. Its too melodramatic. So, if u r going to watch it....don't say.. you were not warned !!!

Manpreet Kaur: This would be a first for me - writing in for a movie. but that's the impact this movie had on me. the intermission point had my husband and myself discussing that though the movie was very enjoyable, but where was it heading....it seemed like another DCH but with no concrete storyline. and the climax really hit me in the guts.....hats off to Mr. Rakyesh Mehra for daring to make a movie like this. though the climax is not positive, not sending the right message but definitely the MOST IMPACTFUL one that could be...it got us thinking ...it got us talking...evern after 3 days it is still fresh in my mind. And one of those movies where the audience walked out, at the end of the show, all quiet - no praises, no criticism, nothing...just a silence as we all walked out each with his/ her own thoughts. One of those rare of rare movies which makes you stop and think. a once in a lifetime movie.

Sidharth Shyamsukha: Actually RDB is an excelent movie. and according to me, the MUSIC is one of the most vital part in making it so. no doubt there are good performances and buirifull direction. second half is really too good.
Lukha Chuppi is one of the best songs i have heard, and the time when it comes, really makes a touch on heart.
hope bollywood gives us many such movies in coming future.
