Cruise, Oprah to host Nobel concert

October 14, 2004

Tom Cruise and Oprah Winfrey will co-host the Nobel Peace Prize concert to honour Kenyan environmentalist Wangari Maathai, the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

The concert will be held in Oslo on December 11, the day after Maathai receives the price from the Norwegian king.

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones hosted the concert last year.

Celebrity performers at this year's event will include Cyndi Lauper, Patti LaBelle, British soul singer Joss Stone, opera singer Andrea Bocelli and jazz singer Diana Krall, reports People magazine.

Maathi, 64, is Kenya's assistant minister for the environment and founded the Green Belt Movement in 1977, the largest tree planting project in Africa.
