Dev: Of communalism and humanity
May 04, 2004 18:29 IST

Govind Nihalani's films were known for their intense and hard-hitting nature. Remember Aakrosh, Ardh Satya, Tamas, and Droh Kaal?

Though his turn as a commercial filmmaker with Thakshak featuring Ajay Devgan, Tabu, and Rahul Bose was a disappointment, Nihalani is at it again.

The cinematographer turned director's new film Dev, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Om Puri, Fardeen Khan, Kareena Kapoor, and Amrish Puri, is now ready for release.

What's Dev all about?

"It's a topical film with realistic characters," says Fardeen Khan. "It hasĀ a strong message. It aims to discuss the communal disharmony that has existed in our country for several years."

Shot in sync sound, Dev boasts of lyrics by celebrated poet Nida Fazli. Aadesh Srivastava has composed the music. One of the highlights of the film includes Kareena recording the song Tum nahi paas in her own voice.

For trivia buffs, after Khakee, witness the Big B play a police officer once again.

Dev is scheduled to hit the marquee on June 11.
