Wockhardt Hospitals Ltd inaugurated four new healthcare units, on Friday, including that for brain and spine, eye and minimal access surgery, in North Mumbai.

The Mulund complex, which already has a heart hospital, would also have speciality unit on bone and joint, Wockhardt chairman Habil Khorakiwala told reporters in Mumbai.

Harvard Medical International, which has a long-term relationship with Wockhardt, was fully involved in the creation and development of these hospitals, he said.

Within each hospital, speciality clinics have been set up for focussed treatment of various medical disorders, he added.

The facilities was inaugurated by dean of Harvard Medical School, Harvard University, US, Joseph Boyd Martin.

Khorakiwala said Wockhardt would be setting up another 5-6 hospitals in the next three years in Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata.

Referring to setting up a super speciality facility in GT Hospital complex in South Mumbai for which an agreement was signed with the Maharashtra government, he said the progress had been slow on that front but the company remained committed to the project.

Wockhardt and Harvard Medical International were also looking at constituting a programme for higher studies and were currently considering the modalities for the same, he said.
