Visa starts new smart card programme in India

Global credit card major Visa International on Friday unveiled its 'Visa Smart Program' in Asia Pacific region including India.

The new programme is a comprehensive set of products and services on chip migration for Visa member banks, a company statement said in New Delhi.

It aims at significantly reducing financial, technical and time-to-market barriers currently faced by card issuers and acquires chip migration efforts, and to accelerate the adoption of Visa debit and credit cards in the region.

The programme is available to all member banks in Asia-Pacific region immediately.

"With this initiative, we will provide global experience and expertise to support member banks and industry in India for a smooth transition to smart card application," country manager (South Asia) Santanu Mukherjee said.
