With a view to advancing the US trade agenda and strengthening relations with Asian countries, the Deputy United States Trade Representative Karan Bhatia will visit India, Taiwan and Vietnam later this month.

"We have a very active trade agenda in this dynamic and rapidly growing region. With our recent bilateral market access agreement with Vietnam, a vigorous trade discussion with India and our ongoing engagement with Taiwan, we are demonstrating that we are eager to deepen our relationship with our Asian neighbors," Bhatia said in a statement.

The visit is expected to take place between May 24 and June 2.

This is Ambassador Bhatia's third visit to India in his six months at the USTR and he will lead bilateral trade discussions under the Trade Policy Forum, a trade dialogue mechanism created last July by President George W Bush and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to enhance trade and investment environment between the US and India.

Bhatia will be accompanied by Assistant USTR for South and Southwest Asia Ambassador Doug Hartwick.
