Amex, GE move call-centre jobs to India
January 21, 2003 20:32 IST

In a recently published report the New York Daily News said that mega American companies like Microsoft Corp, General Electric and American Express are moving thousands of customer service call-centre jobs to India.

According to research experts by 2018 about 3.3 million service-industry jobs will likely be shifted in countries like India, Russia, China and the Philippines.

India's over 250 million English speaking workforce and lower labour costs are attracting more US companies to set up call centres or outsource other work, the paper said.

It may be recalled that American Express recently opened a call centre in Gurgaon, which currently employs hundreds of employees.
