The Indian Railways on Thursday said it will enter a new era of speed with the introduction of a New Delhi-Bhopal Shatabadi express to be run at the speed of 150 kilometer per hour, from June this year.

The speed would be the highest ever in the country's railway history so far, it said, adding the rakes were being produced at RCF Kapurthala.

Addressing a press conference in Kapurthala on the occasion of Railway Week celebrations, Rail Coach Factory general manager M.Sirajuddin said the Railway Board had asked the RCF to manufacture the new LHB German design high-speed coaches for this high-speed Shatabadi train.

He said these coaches were under production and the first rake would roll out by June 15 and the high-speed Shatabadi train would run on the New Delhi-Bhopal section any time before June 30.

RCF, which has designed and developed India's first fire proof coach few months back, has introduced some of these features in the manufacturing of coaches.

He said glass wool had been replaced with rock wool, which could resist the temperature up to 800 centigrade in comparison to 300 centigrade being resisted by glass wool.

The Research Development and Standard Organisation was studying the various salient features of the fire proof coaches developed by RCF and after their analysis more fire retardant features would be added in the coaches, he said.
