The Indus Entrepreneurs will be bringing a team of venture capitalists for showcasing potential entrepreneurs in India.

Speaking on the sidelines of the services seminar organised by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry Sridar Iyengar, president TiE said, the venture capitalists would be visiting Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai.

Iyenger said that the model of venture capital funding in India had changed. Foreign venture capitalists were now funding US companies who were outsourcing their development work out of India. However, the venture capitalists would not be visiting Kolkata.

Earlier in the day, West Bengal IT minister Manabendra Mukherjee said that the sector five in Salt Lake, which was the IT hub of the city would be transformed into an industrial town.

S Sivakumar, chief executive officer, international business division ITC explained how the company's e-choupal initiative had cut down costs for the farmers and improved price realisations. The cost of producing and delivering soyabean had come down from Rs 720 per tonne to Rs 335 per tonne.

Bhaskar Pramanik, managing director Sun Microsystems said that the company would add manpower. In the immediate term, around 200 people would be added to the company's 700-strong employee strength.
