TCS plans Rs 1,000 crore training centre in Kerala

Software major TCS will sign an MoU with Kerala government on Saturday for setting up of a Rs 1,000 crore Global Training Academy in Thiruvananthapuram.

The proposed academy will be the largest TCS centre in the country with training and accommodation facilities for about 10,000 to 15,000 professionals, a release from Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) said.

The signing of the MoU will mark the commencement of the golden jubilee celebrations KSIDC.

TCS will also construct most modern Software Development Special Economic Zone campuses in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi for providing job opportunities to 8,000 and 5,000 IT professionals in these centres, respectively.

KSIDC, which has assisted the state government in over 700 projects with an investment of Rs 26,300 crore (Rs 263 billion), proposes to facilitate mega projects worth Rs 1,00,000 crore in the coming years, the release said.

The

agency had been helping the investors with project lending, single window clearance system, equipment purchase loans and project consultancy.

Recently appointed advisor to the Prime Minister and the chairman of the KSIDC T K A Nair will deliver the Jubilee Address at the function to be chaired by state Industries, IT and Urban Affairs Minister P K Kunhalikutty.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will launch the logo to commence celebrations and also present Awards of Excellence to 50 select entrepreneurs.

KSIDC Managing Director Alkesh Sharma said the corporation was committed to bringing in more investment and industrial growth in the coming years and projects lined up by it include life sciences park in Thiruvananthapuram, electronic hub, petro-chemical complex, oceanarium, trade and convention centre in Kochi, high-speed rail corridor, titanium sponge project at Kollam.

The high-speed rail corridor connecting the North and South of the state itself is to mobilise an investment worth Rs 77,000 crore (Rs 770 billion), he said.
