A group of Indian-Americans announced formation of the Indus Nanotech Association to further strengthen Indo-US collaboration in this field and commercialise new technologies.

"We have reached the critical mass of a large number of Indian-Americans involved in nanotechnology and nano-enabled technologies," Thomas Abraham, coordinator of the new group, said.

Abraham, who had also been the founder and architect of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin, said, "The time has come to develop a networking group among us to help each other as well as to look at opportunities for collaborations, licensing and other joint ventures in India and in other countries so as to bring synergy to take new technology initiatives to commercialisation."

The Indus Nanotech Association, would have entrepreneurs and businessmen, but also researchers, technologists and investors.

The first meeting of the group was recently hosted by Anil Diwan, president and

chairman of Nanovirisides, in New York City.

TINA has been launched as a worldwide organisation with headquarters in the US.

The group assembled at the conference felt that there are opportunities to organise the nanotechnology area for mutual benefits of its members in the US and others countries as well as those in India.

It will also contribute to the society at large by helping commercialise new technologies, the statement said.

The new group will give a platform for Indian-origin nanotechnology researchers, technologists, entrepreneurs and investors to exchange ideas and provide networking among the nanotechnology professionals so as to advance the field and create new areas of business, it said.

It will also create interactive and cooperative efforts between nanotechnology professionals and entrepreneurs living outside India with their counterparts in India.

The new group will organise international and regional meetings to promote new technologies and provide opportunities for technology developers to meet with potential investors, the statement said.
