IT major Tata Consultancy Services has bagged the contract to implement end-to-end solutions for national flag carrier Shipping Corporation of India.

The contract, including automisation, is for 22 months. The deal size of the contract is not known.

This is a part of automisation programme launched by SCI to compete with private and international shipping companies. SCI Director Sudhir S Rangnekar confirmed the development but refused to divulge the details.

TCS spokesperson did not wish to comment. This automisation comes when the company is diversifying its activities into land logistics and chemical tanker businesses.

According to sources, TCS will implement software solutions which will enable SCI to connect ships plying anywhere to headquarters.

"First four months would be consulting phase and remaining 18 months would be execution phase. TCS has already started its consultation process," informed sources said.
