Tata Consultancy Services and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited have announced the release of PowerPac-G, a software product which has been  jointly developed by them for the power industry.

The product caters to the decision support and integrated asset management needs of power generation plants.

The product was developed over a period of one year, following a memorandum of understanding signed by TCS and BHEL in January 2003 to jointly develop IT solutions for the power sector. TCS and BHEL will jointly market the product in Indian and global markets. Some initial orders have been firmed up, a press release said here.

The product was formally released at BHEL's Corporate R&D Division here by S Balagurunathan, executive director of BHEL, and Ravi Gopinath, vice-president of TCS.

The TCS–BHEL alliance plans to release two more modules of PowerPac to address asset management requirements in transmission and distribution, and plant and distributed assets. The MoU between TCS and BHEL envisages a leadership position in technology solutions for the power sector by 2005.
