Tata Consultancy Services is to expand its existing training college located at Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram, in Kerala, and make it the company's global hub for training.

In line with its expansion plans, TCS has acquired 12 acres of land at the information technology park, in addition to its existing 2.15 acres of land at Technopark.

"We have decided to expand our training college at Technopark with the acquisition of the additional land. We'll make the training centre a global one where all our global recruits would be trained," a TCS release said in Mumbai on Tuesday, quoting R Mahalingam, the company's chief financial officer.

"The additional land also gives TCS an option to start software development facilities in future, though a firm decision on date is yet to be taken."

Kerala IT and Industries Minister Kunhalikutty said this was a strong vote of confidence in the state's ongoing reform process.

At present, the Tata group company has a training center spread over 57,500 sq ft at Technopark, with a capacity of providing training to 600 new entrants at a time, with each programme being of four months duration.

TCS had made similar investments at Siriseri in Tamil Nadu, Noida, Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
