Buoyed by the emerging opportunities in the infrastructure sector, the Tata group has brought its two consultancy arms - Tata Strategic Management Group and Tata Economic Consultancy Services - under one umbrella.

TSMG, a division of Tata Industries, has brought TECS, a part of Tata Sons, under its fold.

Incorporated in 1970, TECS is the country's oldest management consulting house, with business interests in west Asia, and south-east and south Asia. It has helped conceive, plan, and evaluate aggregate investments of over $15 billion.

TSMG chief executive Raju Bhinge told Business Standard that the merger was aimed at providing better service in management consultancy in general, and the infrastructure sector in particular, as they complemented each other.

To drive home his point, he cited the example of special economic zones. TSMG, one of the largest management consultancies in south Asia, is into strategic thinking, while TECS is more into feasibility studies.

Bhinge said TSMG had set an aggressive target of expanding business in the UK, the US and Germany shortly, with its offers in strategic research, analytics, and financial research.

TSMG was also in the process of reducing its dependence on the Tata group, he said.
