The United States-based International Council of Shopping Centres on Monday announced Indian operations to help develop the shopping centre industry here and promote research on this growing segment.

ICSC, which has opened an office in New Delhi, has appointed Images Multimedia chief Amitabh Taneja as the director for Indian operations.

Taneja said the timing of ICSC's entry into India was "just perfect. With an estimated 250 modern-day shopping centres under construction and another 250 on the horizon, the Indian retail landscape will undergo major changes."

ICSC was founded in 1957 and is a global trade association of the shopping centre industry. Its 44,000 members across US, Canada and over eight other countries include shopping centre owners-cum-developers, managers, marketing specialists, investors and retailers.

The principal aim of ICSC is to advance the development of the shopping centre industry and to establish individual shopping centres as major institutions in the local community.
