Sensex sheds 72 points at close
July 13, 2006

After yesterday's tech led rally the markets took a breather and closed in the red ahead of BoJ meet. Markets across the globe have displayed weakness. Asian markets closed in the negative down around 1% and the European markets are also trading weak.

The BSE Sensex was rangebound throughouth the day and closed at 10,858.50 down 72 points.
The Nifty closed at 3169 down 27 points.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,322.33, up 39 points.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 4,386.05, up 5 points.
About 1271 shares advanced, 1072 shares declined, and 73 shares were unchanged.
BSE sectoral indices closed mixed. Oil and gas, auto and IT indices lost ground but consumer durables, metal and banking indices closed flat.

Markets Today:

The BSE FMCG Index was up 0.68% at 1,991.02. Shaw Wallace, McDowell, Britannia and HLL closed in green.

The BSE Health care index was up 0.2% at 3,164.39. Lupin, Pfizer, Cipla, Cadila Health and Wockhardt slipped.

The BSE Metal Index was up 0.19% at 8,495.56. Jindal Saw, Hindalco, Guj NRE Coke and SAIL witnessed selling pressure.

The BSE Bankex was down 0.07% at 4,323.78. Bank of India, HDFC Bank, PNB, Union Bank and UTI Bank were among the losers.

The BSE Capital Goods Index down 0.3% at 7,086.00. Praj Industries, Carborundum, Crompton Greave, Greaves Cotton and BHEL closed lower.

The BSE Consumer Durables Index lost 0.1% at 2,803.84.

The Auto index closed at 4,624.73 down 0.8%. M&M, Hero Honda, Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor and Cummins closed lower.

The BSE IT Index was down 0.9% at 3,998.54. Mphasis BFL, Wipro, HCL Tech, Patni Computer and TCS moved down.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index closed down 1.4% at 5,330.42. Kochi Refineries, BPCL, Reliance, HPCL and IOC were among the losers.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 5400.54 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 20362.66 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 2515.39 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 28278.59 crore.
