Sensex gains 109 points to 10,151

The markets had a highly volatile session due to worries over the Fed meet on interest rate hike and F&O expiry on Thursday.

The Sensex closed the day with gains of 109 points and the Nifty was up 39 points.

The Asian markets closed mixed and Nikkei was up 0.13%.

The Sensex closed at 10,151.01 up 108.95 points and the Nifty closed at 2,892 up 39 points.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,244.99, down 101 points.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 4,234.54, down 42.38 points.

The major gainers on the indices were ITC, HDFC, Tata Steel, Dr Reddys Labs, Suzlon Energy, VSNL, SAIL and Tata Power.

The BSE sectoral indices closed mixed.

The BSE FMCG Index was up 3.8% at 1,881.37. ITC, Colgate, Shaw Wallace, HLL and P&G closed in green.

The BSE Metal Index advanced by 2.71% at 8,097.91. SAIL, Tata Steel, JindalStainless, JSW Steel, Sterlite Ind and Hind Zinc witnessed buying interest.

The BSE IT Index was up by 1.89% at 3,571.67. I-Flex Solution, Patni Computer, Wipro, Infosys and Satyam moved up.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index rose 0.56% at 5,015.07. GAIL, HPCL, BPCL and Reliance advanced higher.

The BSE Health Care Index was down 0.36% at 3,083.29.

The BSE Auto Index lost 0.11% at 4,464.60 and the BSE Bankex closed flat at 4,323.76.

The BSE Consumer Durables Index lost 0.63% at 2,663.40.BPL, Su-Raj Diamonds, Blue Star, Titan Industries and Whirlpool were among the losers

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7805.73 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 37157.31 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3638.67 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 48601.71 crore.

Sensex @ 1440 hrs

The markets continue to trade around its previous close ahead of F&O expiry on Thursday.

At 2:40 pm, the Sensex was trading at 10,084 up 42 points and the Nifty was trading at 2,954 up 11 points.

The market breadth was negative, about 591 shares have advanced, 1628 shares declined, and 53 shares are unchanged.

The major losers on the indices were Reliance Comm down 5.05%, Reliance Energy down 2.9%, HDFC Bank down 2.3%, BHEL down 2.4%, and Maruti Udyog down 1.74%.

However, Reliance was trading at Rs 997.40 up 1.65%, Infosys was trading at Rs 2,943.65 up 1.74% ITC was trading at Rs 174.45 up 5.12% and Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 219.25 up 2.12%.

Sensex @ 1325 hrs

The markets are witnessing some buying interest and have moved up.

At 1:25 pm, the Sensex was trading at 10,144 up 102 points and the Nifty was trading at 2974 up 31 points.

About 451 shares have advanced, 1686 shares declined, and 43 shares are unchanged.

The BSE sectoral indices are trading mixed. FMCG stocks are witnessing heavy buying followed by metal, IT and oil & gas stocks.

The major losers on the indices were Reliance Comm down 4.64%, Reliance Energy down 3.65%, HDFC Bank down 2.68%, BHEL down 1.96%, Cipla down 3.14% and GlaxoSmithKline down 2.40%.

The major gainers on the indices were ITC, HDFC, HLL, Reliance, VSNL, Suzlon Energy and Tata Power.

Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 218.25 up 1.65%, Reliance was trading at Rs 993.00 up and ITC was trading at Rs 174.00 up 4.85%.

Sensex @ 1238 hrs

The markets have moved into the green after touching low of 9901.58. At 12.38 pm, the Sensex was up 36 points at 10078 and the Nifty was up 13 points at 2956.

However, overall market breadth is negative. About 372 shares have advanced, 1683 shares declined, and 47 shares are unchanged.

The BSE FMCG index outperformed the other BSE sectoral indices, its up by 1.97%.
Some buying was also seen in metal and oil & gas stocks.

ITC, HDFC, Reliance, Tata Motors, Suzlon Energy, VSNL, Tata Power and Siemens were top gainers on the indices.

Suzlon Energy was quoting at Rs 868, up Rs 53.35, or 6.55%.  VSNL was quoting at Rs 367.75, up Rs 16.50, or 4.70%.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 170.10 up 2.5% from its previous close of Rs 165.95.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 244.15 down 2.18% from its previous close of Rs 249.60.

Sensex @ 1155 hrs

The markets continue to trade weak due to lack of buying interest at the lower levels.

At 11:55 am, the BSE Sensex was trading at 9,931 down 110 points and the Nifty was down 32 points at 2,910.

About 269 shares have advanced, 1669 shares declined, and 38 shares are unchanged.
Apart from the FMCG index all the BSE sectoral indices are trading in red. Stocks from metal, auto and pharma are witnessing selling pressure.

The major losers on the indices were Reliance Comm down 5.12%, Cipla down 4.25%, Reliance Energy 3.72%, MTNL down 3.7% and ONGC down 2.98%.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,003.80 up 2.3% and ITC was trading at Rs 168.55 up 1.57%.

Sensex @ 1043 hrs

The markets could not hold on to the gains they made during the initial trade and have slipped in the negative terrain.

The movement is range bound and at 10:43 am, the Sensex was trading at 9,994 down 47 points. The Nifty was trading at 2921 down 21 points.

About 668 shares have advanced, 745 shares declined, and 38 shares are unchanged.

The major gainers on the indices were HDFC, Reliance, ITC, Tata Steel and SAIL.
The major losers were BHEL, HDFC Bank, Reliance Comm, Reliance Energy and HPCL.

In the Asian indices Taiwan was 1.1% up, Kospi almost up 1%. Hang Seng is up about 0.3%; Nikkei and Straits Times are virtually flat. The Dow rose 56.19 points to 11,045.28, and the NASDAQ composite went up 12.20 points to 2,133.67.

Sensex @ 0957 hrs

The markets opened strong reversing the downtrend of its previous session.

At 9:57 am, the Sensex was at 10136 up 94 points and the Nifty was trading at 2,967 up 24 points.

The Asian indices are trading mixed but the Nikkei was trading flat. However, the Dow ended in green.
