Sabharwal overviews Indo-Pak trade via LoC

Indian high commissioner in Islamabad Sharad Sabharwal on Tuesday visited the Kaman post, the point of inter-Line of Control travel and trade in Kashmir Valley to take stock of the infrastructure and other related arrangements.

The high commissioner, who is on a two-day visit to Kashmir, is the first high level officer to visit the Kaman post to appraise the conduct of travel and trade between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad.

While the epoch making travel across the LoC began in April 2005 in the backdrop of a peace process between the two nuclear neighbours, the trade took off three and half years later in October last year.

The high commissioner first visited the trade facilitation centre at Salamabad, 9 kms short of Kaman post, where he was briefed about the infrastructural facilities in place for the trade.

Interestingly 30 trucks carrying merchandise from Pak-Occupied Kashmir crossed the Kaman bridge that connects the two Kashmir's and reached Salamabad in the afternoon.

From this side 16 trucks carrying mostly fresh fruits and carpets crossed to the other side.

The items of inter-LoC trade are mutually approved by the two governments.

The high commissioner also met senior army officers at the Kaman post.
