Doing away with the need for carrying the regular hard paper ticket, Railways would be launching its E-ticketing scheme in up and down Kalka-New Delhi Shatabdi trains from August 12.
In this scheme, the photo identity card of the traveller along with the printout of the electronic reservation slip (ERS) would constitute the authority to travel on the train, an official release said on Tuesday.
The service can be availed by the customer from the Web site www.irctc.co.in duly selecting the 'E-ticket' option after login.
While booking, the passenger has to give the details of any one of the photo identity cards -- voter identity, passport, PAN card, driving licence, central/state government issued employees ID cards, and non-Indians can submit their passport.
The payment options for the scheme on the Web site will consist of Internet banking facilities offered by 15 major banks in India and also the existing cash card payment option it said, adding that the passenger has to necessarily carry the same photo identity card as given during the booking along with the ERS while on journey.
The E-ticket can be cancelled only through Internet till chart preparation of the train (which is normally four hours before the scheduled departure of the train), and cancellation is not allowed at face-to-face railway counters, it said.
