PVR Cinemas set to enter Chennai

PVR Cinemas, India's leading chain of multiplexes, is set to enter Chennai with a 1800 seating capacity facility at the upcoming fully-integrated shopping-cum-entertainment mall, 'Ampa Centre One' in the heart of the city.

PVR Cinemas, which runs multiplexes in Delhi and Bangalore, would have seven-screen multiplex on a 60,000 sq.ft area at the Ampa Centre One, said Ampa Palaniappan, managing director of Ampa Housing Development Pvt Ltd., the promoter of the mall.

The smallest movie hall will have a seating capacity of 150 and the biggest will have a capacity to house 700 people, he said.

He said the Ampa Centre One would be commissioned in September 2006 on a total built-up area of over six lakh sq.ft. constructed at a cost of Rs 50 crore (Rs 500 million) on three acres on the junction of Poonamalee High Road and Nelson Manickam Road.

The mall will also feature a bouquet of leading international and national brands like West Side Department Store and a Spencer's Hypermarket.

The mall will also include a food court that will serve 15 different cuisines, three signature restaurants and a coffee shop.  "Its multi-level car park will have space for a whopping 1000 cars," Palaniappan said.

The mall would also boast of a hypermarket, three floors of retail, a food mall, fine dining restaurants and a 20-room boutique hotel, he said.
