Azim Premji, Wipro chairman-cum-managing director, has been conferred with Sir Jehangir Ghandy medal for his outstanding contribution to industrial and social peace.

Premji was given the medal at the 49th annual convocation of Xavier Labour Relations Institute, a reputed B-school in Jamshedpur.

The medal was instituted by XLRI in 1966 in honour of late Dr Jehangir Ghandy, former chairman of the board of governors of XLRI and also the chairman of Tata Steel.

Accepting the medal, Premji said the honour was really a reflection of the hard work, initiative and innovative spirit of the 43,000 team members of Wipro all over the world and so this was an honour for each Wipro employee, he said.

Appreciating the beautiful city of Jamshedpur, Premji said the city was the most visible demonstration of good business in the country and it was an inspiration to all, demonstrating that business organisations must have meaning and purpose beyond making money.

"We can contribute in the development and growth of the country very directly and to me that is a good business", he said.

Suggesting the passing out managers of the XLRI to inculcate the spirit of 'anything is possible', the Wipro chief said this spirit was visible among the young people today more than any time before.
