Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Friday discussed the issue of petrol and diesel pricing with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Petroleum Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar could not attend the meeting as he was reportedly ill. However, Petroleum Secretary B K Chaturvedi attended the meeting.

Neither Chidambaram nor Chaturvedi commented on the deliberations but sources indicated that a duty cut on crude and petroleum products was among the options discussed.

Singh was also briefed on the need for raising petrol and diesel prices in view of the seven dollars a barrel surge in crude prices. However, no decision is likely to be taken before June 15, the next date of review of prices.
