Patni Computer Systems, the global IT services provider, Thursday announced that it has signed a multi-million pound multi-services telecom contract with The Carphone Warehouse, Britain's largest independent retailer of mobile communications.

Patni will support Carphone's delivery platform encompassing fixed line, wireless and Mobile Virtual Network Operator capabilities for the pan-European market. This will be a fixed price engagement with program management and end-to-end systems implementation responsibility across multiple vendors.

Patni is a leader in developing MVNO solutions and is extending its market leadership position in this segment from North America to Europe.

Says Simon Post, Chief Technology Officer, Carphone, "Our aim is to provide customers with a comprehensive web-based solution, which will make managing our relationship more effective, and give them faster access to an even wider range of the latest products. The solution proposed by Patni will reduce the long-term cost of ownership of our billing and CRM systems. Carphone Warehouse already works with Patni in other areas and, despite tough competition, we chose to work with them on this project as they have the best credentials for our requirement."

Patni is leveraging key technology assets and re-usable components to deliver services to Carphone.

Says Neeraj Gupta, Head of Communications Business Unit, Patni, "Carphone's selection of Patni for the development of its next generation IT platform, in the face of significant global competition, is further validation of our differentiated services capability and domain expertise in the global communications industry."

Patni clinched the deal amidst stiff competition from global IT consultancy giants, firmly positioning itself as a long-term strategic partner for The Carphone Warehouse. Close on the heels of the recent ABN AMRO global outsourcing contract, this win not only underscores Patni's ability to win big ticket contracts but also strengthens the company's presence in Europe.
