Nokia, the number-one telecommunication equipment vendor in India (voice and data, 2004, 2005), is moving towards mobility solutions for the enterprise class.

As a step in this regard, the company, which aims at making India its second largest market from the present fourth position, has launched Eseries of smart phones that allow data access even while on move.

"Consumers have started demanding a device which is not just a mobile phone, but which is more powerful and scalable in terms of features. We are looking at the best converged devices with multiple forms of connectivity like WiMAX, Wi-Fi, WLAN, GPRS and EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for Global Evolution) on a secured platform with strong browsing experience," said G K Chakrapani, country manager, Nokia Enterprise Solutions.

Nokia Eseries phones have been designed keeping in mind the need of business users to stay connected anytime, anywhere.

The devices offer secure mobile access, advanced voice and data functionalities and combine features of e-mail, connectivity option and superior voice quality.

According to a study by Nokia in partnership with Saffron Hill, over four out of every ten organisations in India presently use at least two mobile applications.

While 74 per cent of the respondents said that they use mobile e-mail, 49 per cent said that they are using the mobile calendar.

The key findings of the research indicate that organisations in India have the potential to drive higher adoption of business mobility solutions.

Nokia also claims that the Eseries devices are the first handsets in the industry to support remote device management based on OMA DM (a standard made by open mobile alliance).

This will provide a tool for IT managers to remotely configure, control and protect corporate data on the handheld devices through remote device access, application management and customisation, it added.
