August 07, 2006 17:42 IST

Nokia on Monday launched its E-series range of phones that are optimised for business use and said it plans to expand the retail outlets for the device from 1,000 to 6,000.

The newly introduced devices -- Nokia E50, Nokia E60, Nokia E61 and Nokia E70 -- offer secure mobile access, advanced voice and data functionalities and combine productive features of e-mail, connectivity options, superior voice quality with easy-to-use designs, Nokia Enterprise Solutions Country General Manager G K Chakrapani told reporters in Bangalore.

All the devices have a 'distinct form factor' ranging from full messaging keyboard (E70) to a four-way joystick (E61), to give enterprises a wide variety of devices to select from, he said.

The E-series devices were the first mobile handsets in the industry to support remote device management based on OMA DM (standard made by Open Mobile Alliance), he said. They were built on the latest edition of the Series 60 Platform, the world's leading smartphone software platform.

Chakrapani said according to a survey on mobile e-mail, 70,000 to 75,000 devices in India had the 'e-mail flavour' and the market was expected to grow by over 50 per cent in three years.

Nokia was holding discussions with two or three leading operators to drive solution offerings like push e-mail and device management, he said. The retail presence would be enhanced to 6,000 outlets.

Barring E50, for which the price would be announced shortly, other models were in the price bracket of Rs 19,000 to Rs 20,000, he said.
