As a part of its 'Trusted Sourcing' initiative, Nasscom today announced the appointment of Shyamal Ghosh as the chairman of the proposed independent self-regulatory organisation (SRO) to make India a better outsourcing destination.

The multi-pronged initiative is targeted at employees, organisations, enforcement agencies and policy amendment, through a '4E Framework' - engagement, education, enactment and enforcement.

The SRO initiative came in the wake of allegations in the US and the UK that the country's call centre workers have stolen and sold data processed by local outsourcing/BPO firms.

Its objective is to raise the bar in data security and data privacy by including the best practices currently stipulated by certifications such as ISO17799 for information security by the International Organisation for Standardisation in Geneva, as well as data privacy and data protection laws worldwide.

Nasscom also announced that the registration for the National Skills Registry has touched the 100,000 mark as of April 2007. Of these, 55,000 are complete registrations and the rest are enrolments , which are in the process of completion.

Nasscom President Kiran Karnik said: "By December 2007, we hope to take this number to 500,000. These are milestones towards the industry's effort to ensure India remains a secure outsourcing destination."
