Terming Tata Motors Nano project as "very important for Bengal and industrialisation", CPI-M Politburo member Sitaram Yechuri was on Thursday hopeful that talks between the West Bengal government and Trinamool Congress on the issue would lead to a solution.

"The project is very important for Bengal and industrialisation. In the interest of the people of Bengal, the project has to start delivery of its products," Yechuri told reporters on the sidelines of an interactive session with members of the Indian Chamber of Commerce.

"We hope the issue will be resolved through discussions and the problem will be solved," he said referring to Wednesday's talks between the state government and the Trinamool Congress.

Asked if investment would be affected should the cars not roll out, he said "The government is to see that the issue is resolved and the products come out."

Earlier a section of industrialists criticized Wednesday's strike by the Left trade unions saying frequent shutdowns were hindering industrial growth in the state.

Yechuri said, "Bandh is the last resort of the working class. Is it because of the uncertainly with Singur or is it because of bandhs that the people are not coming here?"

Asked to comment on the controversy over the land Acquisition Act, 1894, he said "it is outdated and fresh legislation has to be brought in."
