Deputy chirman of the Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, who is in Washington to attend World Bank meetings, will be addressing investors in New York on July 1 and 2.

The meetings with the investors at New York, according to sources, are being organised by the US-India Business Council.

"Ahluwalia will meet investors under the aegis of USIBC and try to convince them to invest in India, which is emerging as a preferred investment destination," a source in the Planning Commission told PTI.

The USIBC is the premier business advocacy organisation representing America's top companies investing in India, joined by global Indian companies, promoting economic reforms with an aim to deepen trade and strengthen commercial ties.

USIBC is partnered with the premier industry and trade associations in India, including the Confederation of Indian Industry and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

The deputy chief of the Planning Commission left for Washington on Saturday to attend the second session of the high-level Commission on Modernisation of the World Bank, formed early this year.

Apart from Ahluwalia, other invitees to the Washington meet include former Secretary General of the United Nations Kofi Annan, Asia Development Bank president Haruhiko Kuroda, IDB President Alberto Moreno and Oxfam representative Barbara Stocking.

The World Bank's high-level body will give its recommendation on how the institution would be governed so that it could better fulfill its mission of overcoming global poverty.

The commission held its first meeting in May.
