Taiwan-based telecom company DBTel on Thursday unveiled its mobile phones in New Delhi and said it will invest upto $50 million for setting up a marketing and customer care network.
"We have earmarked about $50 million as initial investment towards the marketing and customer care network," Levis Hsu, vice president (Asia Pacific), DBTel, said.
Stating that DBTel was targetting a market share of five per cent in the first year of its launch in India, Hsu said that as part of its marketing strategy, phones in all segments will be available, with the low end starting at Rs 4,250.
The $800 million DBTel, which claims to have the second largest market share in China, was the original equipment supplier to Motorola, Siemens, Lucent Telecom, Alcatel among others.
"India's expertise in software is world known and we may look at setting up a research and development centre here," Hsu said.
DBTel, which has tied up with Chennai-based Munnoth Communications for marketing and distribution, launched 11 mobile phones and plans to bring a total of 23 phones in next six months.
The mobile phones launched today feature 65,000 high resolution colour display, candybar shape and clampshell design.
