LGEIL on Thursday launched its LG Super Slim Television, an innovation, which the company said, provided a tangible solution for limited space, especially in metros.

The super slim CRT (cathode ray tube) TV will "further consolidate our no 1 position in CTV segment," Sanjeev Jain, head (product group), LGEIL told reporters, while announcing the launch in Bangalore.

"We plan to target 200,000 units of Super Slim by the end of 2005 and are looking at a market share of 35 per cent," Deba Ghoshal, head (brand management and product planning), LGEIL said.

Flat TV contribution in the total television segment has grown from 30 per cent to 60 per cent in 2005, he said.

The innovative technology used for Super Slim TV incorporates a new picture tube, which makes the TV slimmer by 20 per cent compared to any other flat TV CPT, Ghoshal said.

LGEIL's focus for 2005 will be new technology offerings to the Indian consumer and the Super Slim Flat TV is a "step forward in this direction", he said.

"With a 100mm reduction in CPT depth, the Indian consumer gets a sleeker option in CRT" priced at Rs 16,990 onwards, he said.

The model, currently introduced in the 21 inches category, will be available in 29 inches by the end of second quarter this year. The product will also be available globally, Ghoshal said.
