GDA Technologies of California, an electronic product development company, on Monday said it was ramping up its Indian operations by doubling its headcount in Chennai, besides opening new offices in Bangalore and Kochi.

The company would invest about $2-3 million to increase its headcount from the present 270 people in India to 500 people in two years, company co-founder and general manager (responsible for chip development) Ravi Thummarukudi said.

GDA Technologies, which makes electronic hardware products for DVD players, set-top boxes, routers and switches, would expand its operations in Chennai by increasing its headcount from the present 160 people to 400 people, he said.

"We are seeing a very rapid growth of electronic products globally. However, there are not many OEM suppliers for the products," Ravi said, adding that GDA Technologies see high potential in this area. Already, companies such as Cisco, Intel and Fujitsu are its clients.

"We expect to end this calendar with $20 million revenues and $50 million revenues in three years," Ravi said.

On plans for Bangalore, he said the company had sold off its unit to Rambus, which is into electronic high-speed interconnect. "We will have 100 people at Bangalore and in Kochi, where we expect to start operations by October this year," he said.

GDA Technologies, founded in 1996 by Kerala born engineers A G Karunakaran (president) and Gopal Periyadan (General Manager) and Ravi Thummarukudi, employs 60 people in the US.
