Jet Airways has placed a $300 million order with US aeroengine major GE for supplying engines to power the Mumbai-based airline's Airbus A 330-200 fleet.

"Jet Airways has selected the GE's CF6-80E1 engines after an in-depth technical and economic evaluation of the available options," airline chairman Naresh Goyal said on Tuesday.

As per the understanding, GE's CF6-80E1 engines will power Jet Airways' 10 Airbus A330-200 aircraft, which are scheduled to begin delivery in 2007, he said in a release.

The airline currently operates a fleet of 42 Boeing 737 aircraft as well as three A340 aircraft. These aircraft are powered by engines from CFM International, a joint venture company between GE and its French counterpart Snecma.

During the Paris Airshow last year, Jet Airways had also ordered 10 GE90-115B-powered Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

GE's CF6 engines have flown more than 115 million hours, which is more than any other high-bypass turbofan engine family. The engine powers more than 10 models of wide-body aircraft.
