Indian IT firms may bag Iraq reconstruction biz
April 07, 2003 17:07 IST

The post-war reconstruction work in Iraq will open fresh opportunities for the Indian infotech sector and would not remain constrained to the United States and United Kingdom companies only, a top HCL Tech official on Monday said.

Chief financial officer of HCL Tech, Arun Duggal said that reconstruction work would begin after the US and UK companies start their work as most of these companies are closely linked with Indian IT firms.

Asked about the mood of foreign countries vis-a-vis the recent spate of incidents in Malaysia and Indonesia involving Indian techies, Duggal said although there is enormous need and respect for Indian IT services abroad. "We have to make sure that we are sensitive to local sentiments."

HCL chief Shiv Nadar said there is a huge quantum of work that is coming, but "we are splitting them to multiple locations."

HCL has a presence across 14 countries and 26 locations.
