Spirit AeroSystems, a global supplier of structures for commercial aircraft, on Wednesday said that it is teaming up with Infosys to set up an 'engineering centre' at the latter's Bangalore campus.

The centre will focus on high-end engineering services including product development, design and analysis of airframe structures, engineering change management and stress engineering support. The engineering centre will grow into a 'global virtual real-time operation' for Spirit AeroSystems.

Speaking on the occasion, Bob Waner, senior vice-president and chief technology officer, Spirit AeroSystems, said, "This is a great opportunity for Spirit AeroSystems to strengthen its presence in India.

"Infosys is our first Indian engineering partner and the centre at the Infosys campus will play a key role in Spirit's strategic interest in India. We have grown our Infosys support of programmes to 40 heads in 2005.

"The skills and talent offered by Infosys will be an extension to Spirit's engineering team, providing us with the much needed engineering scalability and flexibility."

Commenting on the partnership, Kris Gopalakrishnan, chief operating officer and deputy managing director, Infosys, said, "Our partnership with Spirit AeroSystems is a validation of India increasingly being looked at as a global engineering hub."

He added: "We see the partnership as playing a key role in Infosys' focus on the aerospace industry."
