Software major Infosys Technologies Ltd on Thursday said it would contest the ruling by the Chennai bench of the Intellectual Property Appellate Board, which has held that it cannot hold a monopoly on the trademark 'Infosys.'

"We will fight it out. There is no problem," Infosys Chairman and Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy told reporters in Bangalore on the sidelines of a banking conference.

Murthy, however, did not elaborate on the issue citing that the firm was in the silent period ahead of its second quarter results on October 12.

Reports cited the Chennai Intellectual Property Appellate Board directing the Registrar of Trade Marks, Chennai, to remove the registration of trademark 'Infosys' following an application moved by the Kolkata-based Jupiter Infosys Ltd.

Jupiter Infosys Ltd sells computers and computer parts.

IPAB was set up by the Centre last year to hear appeals against the decision of the Registrar under the Trade Mark Act, 1999 and the Geographical Indicators of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999.
