India's Tata Group, which shot into prominence in Europe through acquisition of steel maker Corus, said on Monday it will soon relaunch its Indica car brand in the UK market in an attractive price band.
The Indica, known to Europeans as City Rover, was rolled out in November 2003 but did not succeed in the market where consumers are very choosy about the vehicles they buy.
"In hindsight, it appears pricing was the reason (for the failure)," said S A Hasan, Managing Director of Tata Ltd, the wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Group in the UK. The car was then launched in a price band of 6,500-8,500 pounds.
"We are working on modalities and everything would be decided later on," Hasan told reporters, when asked about details of the re-entry into one of the most demanding markets in terms of consumer expectations.
