'Indian job market not as badly affected'

The Indian job market has not been as adversely affected by global recession as was being presumed, thanks to 'job increase' in the public sector, UPSC Chairman D P Agrawal said on Monday.

He said the quantum of job loss witnessed in the private sector was made good by creation of more jobs in the public sector.

"Compared to last year, the indent from government to us was 1.4 times more this year," he said at a function here, adding, it indicated that "there was enough happening in the nation," and that India was not fully dependent on global trends.

Agrawal was speaking at the 36th foundation day of Agriculture Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB), where he also lauded the board's efficient way of recruitment without attracting any litigation.

He said the greatest challenge before them today was "maintaining high level of transparency and professionalism" in recruitment. In this regard, he also sought development of a mechanism which adequately addresses several issues like retaining talents.

ASRB has decided to soon introduce online examination system for recruitment of agriculture research scientists.

"This will be a Rs 30 crore project and we have got the approval for introducing the system," chairman of ASRB C D Mayee said.
