India's second-biggest carmaker Hyundai Motor India on Thursday said its sales went up by a massive 55 per cent to 15,259 units in November.

Domestic sales grew by 20.8 per cent to 11,104 units in the month under review from 9,187 units, while exports jumped by six fold to 4,155 units against 660 units, a company statement said in New Delhi.

Sales of the compact car Santro surged by 58 per cent to 12,084 units while that of Accent by 44 per cent to 3,042 units. Luxury car Sonata clocked 85 units over 80 units in November 2002.

HMIL is contemplating a third shift at its facility near Chennai from January to meet domestic and export demand.

Earlier, the company had indicated that supply to the domestic market would be constrained by a sharp increase in demand from the European markets.
