The rupee depreciated 10 paise to 66.52 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday at the Interbank Foreign Exchange because of appreciation of the American currency in global markets.
Forex dealers said gains in the dollar against other global currencies and a lower opening in the domestic equity markets, weighed on the rupee.
The rupee had gained 31 paise to close at three-week high of 66.42 in Thursday's trade.
