Haier Appliances (India) Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Chinese white goods major Haier Technology, is planning to enter the Indian market in a big way by launching models across various product categories.
Director of Haier India Pranay Dhabai said that the company has entered into strategic collaboration with Whirlpool and Voltas to manufacture refrigerators and air-conditioners for the Indian market.
He said once volumes justified setting up a manufacturing unit in India, the company would do so, in addition to putting up an R&D centre in India.
Worldwide, Haier has presence in 165 countries with R&D centres in 12 countries with global sales turnover of $9.2 billion.
Dhabai said Haier had been adjudged as world's second largest domestic appliances company after Whirlpool.
The company would sell its products through direct dealers and 'Planet Haier' outlets.
Haier would sell products like ACs, fridges, CTVs, washing machines and microwave ovens.
Dhabai said Haier also has plans to use India as a production base for exports to South Asian, West Asian and African countries.
The company had already made a soft launch in Delhi last month. Dhabai said the products would be rolled out across the country in a few weeks time.
He said that launch of mobile phones both in the GSM and CDMA segments were also on the cards.
The company would directly import high-end products into India.
